“We moved to Maine in 2015 - the coastline in particular really got me excited about returning to a more meditative way of painting - with a focus on shape, texture and color. In these works, I initiate a kind of non-verbal conversation with each painting: I layer paint with thin washes, then scrape, scratch, draw over, then add more layers until a kind of peaceful, but also engaging balance is found…My aim is to offer something familiar, yet sufficiently undefined, so that the viewer is gently encouraged to question and answer what they see and feel.”
